Chapter History

The Washington D.C. Silhouettes

The purpose of the organization is to assist Kappa members as well as promote educational, cultural, social, and civic improvement within the metropolitan area of Washington, DC. Known as the DC Silhouettes since May 2010, this chapter has historically had members who have not only served on both the Eastern Province and National levels but have also made several contributions and been actively engaged in award-winning and charitable work.

Notably, the Eastern Province newsletter, the Pipeline, was named by the DC Chapter, and Gwendolyn Eichelburger (deceased) was responsible for the music to the Silhouette Hymn.

Other members who’ve made significant contributions to the organization were Silhouettes Mary Foley (National President), Marian Tyrance (National Vice President), both Louise Young (deceased) and Gwendolyne Brown (National Treasurer), Geraldine Fowlkes (National Second Vice), both Inez Teasley and Geraldine Fowlkes (Eastern Province Coordinator), both Gwynette Lacy and Carolyn Clay (Assistant Eastern Province Coordinator), and Jeanne DeBose (National Journalist).

As the DC Silhouettes begin to celebrate the 65th anniversary of its chartering, the chapter will continue to always work together and remain committed to supporting their husbands in the promotion of educational, cultural, social, and civic improvement within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
